Christmas on a Boat

Charleston SC Airbnb

Charleston SC Airbnb

Spending Christmas on a boat is a little different than on land. I asked many questions as a kid such as “how will Santa come if we don’t have a chimney?” Well, he’s not restricted to just chimneys and is able to come down the mast of course.

The size of your tree may be limited due to the size of your boat (ours was only 42’ long), but there is ample room for decorating the mast and rigging with creative lights. Palm trees were decorated instead of traditional fir trees on the islands.

We spent one particularly memorable Christmas in the Turks and Caicos with our little Charlie Brown fake Christmas tree and scanty supply of presents. Our favorite part of the holidays was riding around in the dinghy handing out candy canes to all the other boats in the harbor. No matter where you spend Christmas, it is a wonderful season of giving thanks and spending time with family and friends to celebrate!

To get in the Sea-Christmas spirit, we recommend the Charleston Holiday Boat Parade, a wonderful local activity for the whole family. We suggest finding parking at Battery Park and viewing the parade from there.

Merry Christmas from Sailor's Rest!
